Open Your Eyes

They Dare You To Open Your Eyes, To Educate Your Self, To Know The Facts

And I Am Doing My Part In Sharing These Facts With You!

Abortion : The termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, or closely followed  by the death of the embryo or fetus; especially: the medical procedure of inducing expulsion of a human fetus to terminate a pregnancy.

I will start by saying that I have not been PRO LIFE my entire life.

I was never really taught about abortion and I don't remember if my school really went over what exactly happens when a female has an abortion.  I thought it was the easy way out, no 16 year old is ready to have a baby ( even if they think they are ) so why not have an abortion.  Or if someone was raped well then why shouldn't they have an abortion I mean they didn't ask for that, they sure don't want a baby to remind them of what happened.  Or if something was wrong with the mother and baby why not abort the pregnancy to make sure the mother is safe.  Those are the things I thought when I was younger.  I have always loved kids, I have always babysat, worked at a daycare center or I was a nanny and I still felt this way.

I will tell you that my outlook changed when I got pregnant with Alex.

I was young! I was not married! I was not engaged!

But this baby that Chad and I created together deserved a life and a chance.  We made the mistake, we weren't careful enough and we got pregnant.  This baby didn't have a choice, this unborn baby didn't ask to come into this world at that exact time.

It was my mistake and I wasn't about to not give this child a chance.  We talked about abortion though, we talked about adoption and we decided that no matter what we wanted this baby and we would be there for each other.

So I am PRO LIFE now.  I am very against abortion and to be honest I don't really care what the reason is.  I feel like if it got to the point in one of my pregnancies I would do whatever it would take to get my baby here in this world alive no matter if it meant my life.  There is always a chance we would both make it and we deserve that chance.

That is just a little about MY OPINION.  Everyone has there own opinion and I know that!

Now let me share some of the facts!
You will be shocked, saddened and you will think this is a joke.

Taking more than 3,000 lives daily ( in the U.S. )

Taking more than 130,000 lives daily ( worldwide )

Close to half of pregnancy are unintended, about 4 in 10 of those end being aborted

22% of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion

Atleast 80% of abortions are performed on unmarried women

50% of U.S. women obtaining abortions are younger than 25

47% of women who have an abortion had at least one previous abortion

Medical abortions make up about 10% of all abortions reported

In 2003, 10 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortions

In 2005, an estimated 161,100 early medication abortions were performed in nonhospital facilities

8% of women having an abortion never used a type of birth control

40% of minors having an abortion reported that neither of their parents knew about the abortion

These facts above I found at

Here are a few more facts that I saw on twitter.  These facts really put things into perspective.

Abortion in the U.S. has caused more deaths than 4 holocausts

Abortion kills more people than heart disease and cancer
93% of all abortions happen for social reasons ( unwanted or inconvienent )

Abortion in the U.S. creates a daily loss of life greater than 9/11

I am not trying to change your mind or sway you in any direction.  But if these facts don't scare you, make your heart ache, worry you, bring tears to your eyes then I don't know what would!

There are so many women out there that would love to have a baby, that have been trying for months or years and still no luck, have had miscarriage after miscarriage and still no luck.
Abortion is not the answer.  There are many more options that just make more sense!

Awesome post Erin! Thank you for sharing this. This issue needs to be addressed more. People don't like talking about it like politics. I am never affraid to talk about this because to me it is one of the most imprtant issues. Innocent babies are being killed. What is more tragic than that?

Thanks again Erin

My mother was mentally ill, and was raped, that's how I was conceived. Lovely story, isn't it? It might not be picture perfect, but that's how I landed on this earth and I'm thankful for it. Very!

That being said, I'm pro-choice, bordering on pro-life. I believe in medical abortions. Also, what's the alternative? "Undergound abortions" conducted by unskilled doctors. Ultimately, it's a woman's body and no one should force her to carry a child.

So, I guess I don't think abortion is right or ethical in most cases, however I don't think it should be illegal. I DO think late term abortions should def be illegal. Cruel and unusual punishment!
