Home Depot

A Mans Toy Store

Alex, Avin and I ran a few errands yesterday.  We went to Wal Mart first and then headed over to Home Depot.  I wanted to go to check out how much it would cost for me to make this project here and I wanted to look at some paint colors.  After Wal Mart I was thinking about skipping the Home Depot run because I wasn't buying anything there and sometimes taking two girls into a store just gets to be too much.  I asked Alex if she wanted to go and she said yes so we went and I AM SO GLAD WE DID.

It ended up that the Home Depot in Elk River was celebrating 10 years of business! We had no idea until we walked in the door and the cashier started telling me everything that was going on. They had cake, fruit, chips and pop at the front door. They had a face painting area and Alex choose to get balloons painted on her face. Then by the wood area they had a place for a kids workshop and they got to choose between a bird house, helicopter, herb garden or bug house to build and keep.

Alex choose to make a Helicopter which actually surprised me.  We had fun building it together and hammering in the nails.  Thank goodness she was a good listener and never hit my fingers!

She got to keep her little apron with her name on it,  she got a certificate saying she complete her Helicopter and she got a baggy full of little goodies.

Overall it was a ton of fun and I am glad we stopped by.

So back to that project, soon I will be posting images that I might want to use.  I have a hard time choosing which images to print.  We have maybe 3 pictures on our walls.  I am dieing to get more pictures on the wall for cheap.  I have about 15 black frames that need to be hung and pictures need to be printed for them.  And with this project that I found I think it will be a cheap fun way to decorate a few walls.  I can make different sizes if I like how one turns out when I finish it or start it.

I also went to home depot to look at paint colors.  I really want different paint in our room.  I am sick of the tan and brown.  I really want to do a gray / purple palate color in our room.  Does anyone have any good color names when it comes to those colors?  Chad thinks it will be too dark in there but I think it will be pretty.  Help Me Please!

hey girl...saw your comment on lyryns post about the stripes in her nursery. I actually painted them for her when jayden was born (well, a few weeks before)...
Its pretty easy! You gotta measure out the distance between stripes (we did one foot), and you can use a chalk like thing (construction workers use) to snap the lines, and then tape on the inside of the part of the wall that's staying that color (like, the room was a light yellow and we did dark yellow the tape goes on the inside of the lighter yellow)...hope that makes sense

What a fun thing for Alex to do!
If you have a Lowe's nearby, they have a regularly scheduled project workshop for kids, exactly like what Home Depot did. They have a different project to make each time.

How fun for Alex. I bet she really did have a great time. And she did such a good job on her awesome helicopter. YOU GO GIRL!

As far as getting those pics up, I think that will look great. I can't wait to see which pics you are debating over.

The Grey/Purple look!!
I have a purple bedroom, probably way more purple and dark than you are wanting but anyways... Its more of an eggplant purple and our woodwork and bedspread are white. I love it! Its so inviting and pretty and it doesn't close the room in at all. I think it makes the room and the things on the wall just pop! (its close to the blackberry harvest color at home depot but not exactly).

But for a less dark and dramatic look you might look at home depot for these colors... polished stone...Grey Heather is a really light pretty color. Sort of purply though, not sure how you feel about that?....Drowsy lavendar is almost a white grey. Really subtle but pretty...Plum smoke is a really pretty darker grey....moonlight grey is really pretty too...

That's just to name a few I thought were really pretty. However I have no idea what your bedroom or living room looks like so I don't really know what would go along with all of your things.
I did have fun playing on home depot's website though :)

Good luck, take pictures and let us know what you end up doing.
